Artwork Submission & Preparation

Artwork can be sent via our Contact Us Form or by email at contactus@leisurehut.com

When submitting, include your name, phone number, and any details regarding your inquiry.

It's crucial to specify the desired size and placement of your artwork on the product.

Being as descriptive as possible in your original request or changes helps ensure accuracy. The following are specific details to include: your art, utilized colors, size of art, location of art on garment, garment details, and garment sizes.

Artwork Quality & Resolution

Why you should send high quality arwork: If low-quality art is sent in, it will more than likely incur an art fee to get it up to production-ready standards. Providing high-resolution, print-ready artwork ensures your project moves forward quickly and smoothly without added costs or delays.

DPI (Dots Per Inch): This translates to the number of dots printed per inch in an image; more dots equal more detail and a clearer image.

For rasterized images, 300 DPI (or PPI) is the preferred minimum resolution. (at the actual print size)

Original vector files or redrawn native artwork created and saved as .svg in vector editing programs (Adobe Illustrator, Kittle, or Canva) are suitable for reproduction use.

Vector vs. Raster Explained

Raster Images are made of pixels, and when scaled, their resolution changes, causing blurring or lack of clarity, especially at lower resolutions. They are typically photographs or graphics created in pixel-based programs like Adobe Photoshop.

Vector Graphics are composed of mathematical paths (points, lines, shapes), making them perfectly scalable to any size (from a business card to a billboard) without losing detail or quality. They have clean edges and are easy to manipulate and edit. Vector is preferred for screen printing and embroidery. Most raster/bitmap images can be vectorized by a graphic designer, though this may incur a charge. Photographic images are an exception and are typically printed with a halftone technique using simulated process. However, setup and preparation take longer, resulting in higher labor costs and fees.

Font, Text, and Design Elements Requirements

All text should be converted to outlines or curves before submission to ensure fonts print as designed, as printers may not have your specific fonts installed. If text is not converted, fonts may be replaced with a font as close to the original the design team can find.

If you cannot outline fonts, send the font names or the font files themselves. Acceptable font file types are TrueType (.TTF) and OpenType (.OTF) Including font names and the program name you used to create a design is extremely helpful to our design team and will likely cut down on design time on our end.

For best results, fonts should be no smaller than 8pt for screen printing.

Thin fonts and lines can be challenging for both screen printing and embroidery, with lines less than 0.25 point or 1 point potentially not printing and lines less than 1.5 point potentially fading away. Fonts less than 0.25 inches in height can be an issue for embroidery.

Color Guidelines

We can print designs using up to 6 unique colors.

Spot Colors are commonly used in screen printing, producing vivid colors and clean, crisp edges. A spot color is a pre-mixed ink used in printing to reproduce a specific color.

Halftones are a technique using varying sizes and spacing of dots to add depth with a single color, making it appear like a gradient. They are best used for photographs, but can be used to reduce the number of colors (though reducing colors is discouraged for the highest quality art).

PMS (Pantone Matching System) numbers should be provided for each color in your artwork for accurate color matching. If not provided, colors may default to in-house stock colors. Custom inks cost slightly more due to labor, waste, and the use of special machinery and materials used to create them.

Simulated Process is a printing technique combining halftones and spot colors to create full-color images. This process takes longer and is slightly more expensive than a normal screen print job, but can achieve the effect of a full color photo.

While including bevels, drop shadows, gradients, color tints, or blurring in screen printed designs using the simulated process technique works fine, including these effects while using the spot color printing technique may not allow for the effects to print clearly, or at all, due to color limitations.

Accepted File Formats

Preferred/Best for Screen Printing:

  • Vector files are highly preferred as they are infinitely scalable without losing quality.
  • Common vector extensions include .ai (Adobe Illustrator), .eps, .pdf, and .svg.
  • A pixel-based or photographic image saved with a vector extension (like .ai, .eps, or .pdf) is not considered a true vector file.
Secondary/Acceptable for Screen Printing (often requires extra work/fees):
  • Raster/Bitmap images with extensions like .jpg, .tif, .psd, and .png can be viewed.
  • These are often used as guides for recreation in screen printing.
  • Photoshop files should remain in layers and not be flattened.
  • Files should be sized to the actual desired print size. If not, the customer may incur a design fee.
Preferred for Sublimation and Transfers:
  • Vector files are highly preferred as they are infinitely scalable without losing quality.
  • Common vector extensions include .ai (Adobe Illustrator), .eps, .pdf, and .svg.
  • A pixel-based or photographic image saved with a vector extension (like .ai, .eps, or .pdf) is not considered a true vector file.
Secondary/Acceptable for Sublimation, and Transfers (often require extra work/fees):
  • Raster/Bitmap images with extensions like .jpg, .tif, .psd, and .png can be viewed.
  • The original file quality will directly affect the finished product.
  • Photoshop files should remain in layers and not be flattened.
  • Files should be sized to the actual desired print size. If not, the customer may incur a design fee.
Preferred for Embroidery:
  • If supplying a digitized embroidery design, send in Wilcom Designer .emb or .DST formats. .DST files do not retain thread color information.
  • Vector files (.AI, PDF, or .EPS) are best, but raster/pixel-based images (.PSD, PDF, .JPG, .TIFF) are also accepted and will be used as a guide
Files that may require redrawing or are not acceptable (for screen print):
  • Web graphics or images from the internet are typically low resolution (e.g., 72 DPI .jpg) and seldom reproduce correctly, often distorting when enlarged.
  • A pixel-based or photographic image saved with a vector extension (like .ai, .eps, or .pdf) is not considered a true vector file.
  • Microsoft Word® (.doc), Microsoft Publisher®, PowerPoint (.ppt), Excel (.xls), MS Paint, Quark, and (.cdr) Corel Draw are generally not usable formats for screen print art as-is, but may be used as guides.

Artwork Charges & Design Services

We have a full-service graphics department on-site that can help create new designs, recreate old logos, or clean up and trace existing "bad" artwork.

Artwork charges may apply for extra work needed to make submitted files usable.

  • This includes recreating art from printed copies, converting raster images to vector, or working with low-resolution files.
  • We offer a free initial review (e.g., up to 15 minutes), with hourly rates applying for more complex work.
Simulated color separations for photographic or full-color images incur an additional cost, due to extra labor from both design and production personnel.

If unsure if your artwork is print-ready, you can send it for a free evaluation.

Standard Placement & Dimensions (Guidelines only, refer to specific provider)
